On the Endurance and the Polar the mesh catches hair and leaves, and ozone deals with bacteria. Either way it is the cartridge that takes out the fine particles that turn water cloudy. It works whenever the chiller is on, so it is the one part that wears. Filtration keeps the water clear for up to two months, one month on The Daily. A fresh cartridge every 4 to 6 weeks keeps it that way; drain and refill when you change the water.

Switch off, open the housing
Power the chiller down at the app or the socket, then open the cartridge housing as shown in the manual.
Swap the cartridge
Lift the used cartridge out, seat the new one and close the housing.
Power up
Switch the chiller back on. Note the date; the next change is in 4 to 6 weeks.
